Sierra Bioclimatic Pergola - The Sustainable City, Dubai

This Sustainable City villa needed shade coverage over a side terrace without the footprint of a full freestanding structure. A wall-mounted two-module Sierra with a single front post was the right specification - one side fixes directly to the building, one post carries the front load, keeping the terrace open and uncluttered.

The Sierra's motorised louvres, controlled via Somfy remote, allow the homeowner to tilt for airflow, angle for shade, or close fully for protection from sun and rain - all from a single controller. For a community built around sustainable living, the ability to manage heat gain and ventilation actively rather than relying on air conditioning aligns well with how the residents use their homes.

A ceiling fan was integrated into the structure, mounted directly to the pergola frame - adding airflow on still days and extending comfortable outdoor use further into the warmer months than shade alone would allow.

The result is a compact, highly functional outdoor room that works across seasons without any permanent walling or enclosure.
