A pergola gives you shade. The right accessories make it a room you use every day - cooler on still evenings, lit after dark, private from the neighbours and protected from the wind.
Airflow
Ceiling Fans
On still, humid evenings a ceiling fan makes more difference than anything else. We mount the fan directly to the pergola frame, so it keeps the air moving over your seating or dining area and looks like part of the structure.
A fan needs a power supply at the pergola, which we plan at the site visit along with any lighting.

Privacy & Protection
Zip Screen Blinds
A zip screen is an outdoor blind that drops between the pergola posts. Its fabric runs in a closed guide down each side, so the edges are sealed against wind, rain, dust and insects. Lowered part way, it blocks the low afternoon sun and gives you privacy from the neighbours. Lowered on every side, zip screens close the pergola in completely.
The screens are made by Llaza in Spain, up to 5 metres wide and 5 metres high on standard models. They can be motorised with a Somfy motor or wound by hand. A motorised screen needs a power point, and we run the cable in neat trunking.

Evenings Outside
Lighting
Lighting built into the pergola means the terrace works after dark without extra wall lights. Choose LED strip lighting along the frame or gutter, recessed spotlights, colour-changing RGB lighting or pendant lights over a dining table.
On a Sierra, Somfy-controlled lighting runs from the same remote and app as the louvres. The Nimbus can have LED lighting with a built-in Bluetooth speaker, and its flat double ceiling takes recessed spotlights.

Smart Control
Somfy TaHoma Switch
The TaHoma Switch is a small Somfy hub that sits indoors on your home Wi-Fi. It connects to your Somfy-motorised pergola, screens and lighting, so you can control them from the TaHoma by Somfy app from anywhere - close the louvres from the office when a storm warning comes through.
Set schedules and scenes (open the louvres at sunrise, or a "dinner outside" scene that tilts the louvres and switches on the lights together), use voice control with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant, and connect to Home Assistant or, for most io products, Apple Home.

Automatic Protection
Soliris io Wind & Sun Sensor
The Somfy Soliris io is a combined wind and sun sensor for motorised fabric. When the wind passes the speed you set, it retracts the fabric to keep it from being damaged. When the sun comes out it can bring the shade down on its own, and take it back up when the sun goes in.
The sensor works directly with the Somfy motors, so it still protects the fabric if the Wi-Fi or internet is down. On a Sierra, Somfy wind, sun and rain sensors connect to the louvre control box in the same way, closing the louvres when it rains.
Works with: For a motorised Wave canopy and motorised zip screens. For the Sierra, ask about its rain and wind sensors.

Pergola Accessories: Common Questions
Are accessories included in the pergola price?
No. Accessories are priced separately from the pergola, and we list each one as its own line on your quote, so you can see exactly what you are paying for.
Can I add accessories after the pergola is installed?
Many can be added later, but it is easiest to plan them from the start: power for fans, lighting and motorised screens is best run through the structure during installation, and wired sensors are best fitted at the same time. Mention what you might want at the site visit.
Do I need a power supply at the pergola?
For a fan, lighting, motorised screens or a motorised pergola, yes. We check where power can come from at the site visit and include it in the plan.
Can I try accessories in the 3D builder?
You can add LED lighting, a zip screen and a ceiling fan to your design in the 3D pergola builder. They are listed on your enquiry rather than drawn, and we include them in your quote.
